In the list of firsts for us #surpriseparents, Bradley had his first little league game last night. Now, he did little league when he was 5 years old, living with his mom and step dad, and he loved it.
He did baseball camp this summer at the local university and has been amped about playing baseball again.
He was nervous as hell.
We were nervous as hell.
But he seemed to have fun and made a play! He struck out both times he was at bat; he was clearly nervous with all eyes on him.
As new parents, we were freaking out internally, too. Did we get him the right pants? Is he having fun? Does he remember all rules? Oh gosh he accidentally ran, he wasn’t supposed to do that. Are other people making fun of him? Are we ok parents? Does he have enough water? Maybe we should have brought an emotional support dog.
I know this is how all parenting is, no matter the experience and age. I know it will get easier with time.
It will also get easier with a little batting practice.
